The S/V Sea Dragon
Sea Dragon is the coolest name for a boat ever. I will fight anyone who says otherwise. I'll share pictures of the boat once I see her in real life, but here is a glimpse into the S/V Sea Dragon! All the information below is from Panexplore's website. Track the S/V Sea Dragon here! When I was first selected to join the eXXpedition Arctic crew, I assumed we would be on a nice boat. I was shocked to learn that not only will our boat be nice, but she is an absolute legend. Meet

Whales, Seals, and (probably not) Walrus- Oh My!
Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat is one of the reasons I love to travel. Greenland's Arctic is home to many fascinating species, and in this blog, I am exploring what wildlife we might be likely to encounter during our sail from Ilulissat to Nuuk in July. The timing and route of our voyage place my fellow sailors and me right in the heart of the Arctic summer. This means there will be ice, but it has seasonally receded. The long hours of sunlight support massive phyto

Why Microplastics: about plastics, our journey, and the science
About Microplastics Plastic is literally everywhere. It is nearly impossible to get through a single day without touching something made from plastic. Plastic, in a lot of ways, has made our modern lives more convenient, cleaner, and safer. Plastic is durable and cheap. But for all these same reasons plastic plagues the environment. When plastic is thrown out, it may be out of mind, its never gone. It's does't disappear, it just breaks down to smaller, and smaller, and smalle

This isn't just a fundraiser. It's an invitation
In July 2026, I will join eXXpedition on a sailing mission along the west coast of Greenland, traveling from Ilulissat to Nuuk aboard an all-women crew studying plastics pollution in the Arctic. I am asking for sponsorhsips from companies and individual donors to support the costs of this incredible advenure. People have asked why I’m fundraising for this mission. The short answer is the obvious one: this is expensive. The honest answer is layered somewhere between sharing sc

Ok. So I don't know how to sail
Literally, I have no idea. Sure, I used to work on boats, so I know some knots and port from starboard. I can read a nautical chart... or at least I used to know how to read a nautical chart. But when it comes to sailing, I really don’t have a clue. That’s part of the fun of this mission. Not only will I be contributing to cutting-edge research on microplastics, but I’ll also be learning how to sail. Learning new skills is one of the best ways to expand the mind. I grew up pl
